This is a very low-angst, sweet, gentle sort of Pride and Prejudice variation. The book opens with Elizabeth, Jane, and Bingley arriving at Pemberley. In this variation, Bingley arrived in Meryton without Darcy, thus giving in to his love for Jane and becoming married before Darcy has even heard of the Bennetts. Thus the newly married couple have brought Elizabeth with them away from the meddling of Mrs. Bennett in search of a new estate to purchase.Since there is no stumbling block to their initial meeting, Elizabeth and Darcy start off on the right foot and their story develops from there. Georgiana is present and plays more of a role than you usually see which I appreciated. You are able to see her development somewhat through her interactions in the book. The bulk of the book is literally these five just hanging out at Pemberley and learning about each other. There is a lot of introspection and emotional growth throughout as the different people talk about themselves and their relationships with others, but that's kind of all that happens (until Wickham shows up of course).Lady Catherine pops up like normal and Colonel Fitzwilliam puts in an appearance. Wickham and Lydia get up to their antics in a slightly different way. The majority of the characters were not altered in any real way, aside from the obvious change of events that doesn't lead to the angst between Darcy and Elizabeth.Overall a sweet, easy read that I unfortunately feel will be forgettable, particularly since I read these variations a lot and have seen some very unique and impressive twists to the original story that tend to stand out more. However, it was a pleasant summer read and would make a good beach read. It would also be a great read for anyone starting with Pride and Prejudice variations. This version doesn't have Darcy coming to Netherfield to help Charles because of some problems at Pemberley, so he meets Jane and Elizabeth after the wedding and their trip to Italy. By the time the Bingley family got to Pemberley Charles is already searching for another estate far from Mrs Bennet and her daily visits to run Netherfield. Darcy and Elizabeth don't get into the pattern of misunderstanding each other which makes it enjoyable. Of course Wickham shows up in another attempt to get money and is run off by Bingley and one of the foot man. He never sees Darcy's response to Elizabeth so decided to ransom Lydia off to Bingley. Fortunately he's captured by Colonel Fitzwilliam and sent to Australia.My only complaint is the rushing to tie everything up nearly in the last chapter. We had chapters upon chapters about the vacation in Pemberley but it then appears the writer runs out of steam and is in a rush to end. It's always annoying when that happens. Otherwise its a decent story that doesn't deviate much from the classic story from Miss Austen.
