Ebook About The first explosive thriller featuring Peter Ash, a veteran who finds that the demons of war aren’t easily left behind...“Lots of characters get compared to my own Jack Reacher, but Petrie’s Peter Ash is the real deal.”—Lee ChildPeter Ash came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his “white static,” the buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature, sleeping under the stars. But when a friend from the Marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help the man’s widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds more than he bargained for: the largest, ugliest, meanest dog he’s ever encountered...and a Samsonite suitcase stuffed with cash and explosives. As Ash begins to investigate this unexpected discovery, he finds himself at the center of a plot that is far larger than he could have imagined...and it may lead straight back to the world he thought he’d left for good.Book The Drifter (A Peter Ash Novel Book 1) Review :
After reading a review of Burning Bright, with a recommendation by Lee Child to the fans of his Jack Reacher books, I had to start with book one. I just finished it, meeting one of my expectations (a bad guy as a compatriot, think Spenser's Hawk) and a cop as an ally on the police, think Quirk). I won't give away which one I nailed. Reading how Peter overcame his PTSD and triumphed in the end, was awesome. Throw in the biggest, ugliest, stinkiest dog I have ever heard about, and you have several hours of pulse-pounding entertainment. I cheered out loud several times. Yess! Add Peter Ash to a long line of my favorite series' characters, e.g., James Bond, Simon Templar, Spenser, Doc Ford, Jack Ryan, Eve Dallas (more than 40 books so far!) and Jack Reacher. Long may he live! It would be a perfect world if Petrie and Child got published in a nice rhythm, every six months. I ran across the sequel to this book first and took a picture of it so I would remember to look it up when I had more money. Later I needed a book to read at the gym so I looked up the book I photographed and learned about this one. I believe in starting series at the beginning so I downloaded this book to my Kindle and read it in 2 days. Normally I am a slow reader. I usually take a week to finish a book. I tried reading Sanford novels but decided I didn't like being that tense all the time. This book is a nice balance of suspense, action and character development. I really like to feel like I know the characters and Nick Petrie does an excellent job of giving the reader enough information about the characters to have a clear idea of just who the characters are. When I finished The Drifter in two days I thought, "I can't afford a new book every two days!" I finally couldn't resist and downloaded the sequel as well, but I made a rule to slow me down. I could only read the book while I was on the treadmill. So far I have logged 12 miles. I am lucky the gym doesn't mind me walking for an hour straight. These books really hold my attention and usually I am slightly ADD. I would recommend this book to anybody who reads this genre.
